Mixed By:  Ryan Schwabe , Chris Tabron & Noah Breakfast
Mastered By: Ryan Schwabe
Produced By: Noah Breakfast and Tunji Ige
Released: 2016
Record Label: Atlantic

Tunji Ige is a name you should get used to seeing. As a rapper from Philly, he’s set himself apart from his competitors and collaborators alike by focusing on creating the most artistic facade possible — literally. His image is well-calculated and intentional. The beautifully arresting cover art for his Missed Calls EP, released in April, inspired the video for the project’s standout track, “War.” “The Missed Calls cover was inspired by Magritte & other surrealist artists,” Ige says. “My goal with the ‘War’ video was to make an extension of that — a piece of moving surrealist art.”

Pop hits in 2016 have their own special formula: a beat from dance music, powerful R&B vocals, and a rap verse or two — but every so often, the result is more than the sum of its parts. Such is the case of Becky Hill’s “Back To My Love,” featuring Little Simz and produced by Noah Breakfast (Ty Dolla $ign, Ellie Goulding), premiered exclusively on Billboard below.

Ellie Goulding - Life Round Here

2014, Mastering, MixingRyan SchwabeComment

The British dance-pop singer is a somewhat more direct, less airy vocalist than Blake, and the New York MC’s verse is fierier and more personal than Chance’s; Philly producer Noah Breakfast’s lurching low-end does more than simply mimic the original. But it’s Haze who really moves the song forward

Shlohmo & Jeremih - No More

Mixing, Mastering, 2014Ryan SchwabeComment

  • Recorded By Shlohmo & Jeremih
  • Mixed By Ryan Schwabe & Noah Breakfast
  • Mastered By Ryan Schwabe
  • Produced By Shlohmo & Jeremih
  • Artist: Shlohmo & Jeremih
  • Album Title: No More
  • Released: 2014
  • Recording Format: 24 bit, 44.1
  • Record Label: We Did it
Fresh off 2012’s weird and rapturous “F—- You All the Time,” Chicago crooner Jeremih has extended his one-off collaboration with Los Angeles beat-wizard Shlohmo on last year’s “Bo Peep (Do U Right).” “No More” is the first single from their forthcoming joint EP, and it’s edgy, 3 a.m., come-down-after-the-club music, more avant-garde James Blake and Miguel than club-friendly Trey Songz or Ron Brown. With its forlorn melody, pent-up atmospherics and pitch-bent vocals, “No More” is full of dread and drift, like the soundtrack to a David Lynch film set in a seedy black strip club. Jeremih still makes great baby-making music; check first, though, to see if monsters are lurking underneath the bed. — Jason King, I’ll Take You There: R&B From NPR Music

RL Grime - Void - Reminder Ft. How To Dress Well

2014, Mixing, MasteringRyan SchwabeComment

Featuring guest vocals from How To Dress Well’s Tom Krell, it’s a slinky and downtempo R&B number that feels more in line with Shlohmo’s syrupy, ambient production than RL Grime’s trap-heavy back catalog.

Theodore Grams - Reckless (Prod. By Noah Breakfast & Subglo)

Mixing, Mastering, Production, 2015Ryan SchwabeComment
Jump to 2015 and we now have the next chapter in the story: Theodore’s “Reckless” produced by Rare MP3’s Noah Breakfast and Subglo. The synth-driven beat with a xylophone-type melody starts out chill, but the heavy snare percussion give it some hyper-flare.

Ellie Goulding - Halcyon Days - Tesselate

2013, MixingRyan SchwabeComment

Ellie Goulding and producer Xaphoon Jones make a project out of Alt-J’s ramshackle “Tessellate” and leave behind a sexy, slow-burning cover that rivals the best of those bedroom r&b jams that have become a fixation of ours in recent months.
